We bought our twenty-acre parcel of Montana land in 1989, having always lived in an urban environment, we were in search of open space and tranquility. The concept was to be able to evolve a chunk of land to live and enjoy life in a relatively quiet place, just off the continental divide with granite outcroppings in a ponderosa pine forest. Over time we learned about our forest and how to be good stewards of our environment.
We have pruned and thinned our trees and chose not to fence our property, allowing deer to roam through it. From the outset, I considered the natural spaces adjacent to our home and my Granitewood Studio as places to create architecturally based site-specific sculpture. Granitewood continues to evolve.
