New Double Arch Houses

The new Double Arch Houses were designed after visioning a double arched window that in my mind referenced a very stylized human form with a head, shoulders and torso. I thought of this Double Arch form as a way to continue extruding and exploring new sculptural ideas. I built a wood and stainless-steel die for my pneumatic extruder and began to produce extruded double arch cylinders that would be cut and assembled.

As the completed forms came together, I incised lines into the roofs and then after drying, bisque fired the pieces. Black stain was applied to the forms and then clear glaze was applied and fired onto the whiteware clay. Black China paint was brushed onto the surfaces and the pieces were fired again. The ceramic decals were then applied, the largest decals first and then the smaller ones. Gold luster was applied to the roofs and the pieces fired a final time. The Double Arch Houses were challenging to produce and mark my most complex forms to date.
